History

Solacoat was developed in Alice Springs, (the centre of Australia), in 1988, where the inventor was a distributor of Solar products to Cattle Stations, Aboriginal Communities and to Northern Territory Government bodies. Heat was a huge problem and nearly all Cattle Stations had galvanized roofing on their buildings. Heat was generated by these roofs affected all aspects of living and increased the load on generators by over 40% in summer. The need for Solacoat was born, and it was developed by extensive trials and testing of various products and additives. The end result was that once Solacoat was applied to most of the roofs and walls of buildings the power load was reduced by more than 30% in summer.

How it Works

Solacoat, an Australian product, represented by TPI’s Australian principles, CoolShield International, is a revolutionary, water-based paint that provides a Radiant Barrier Insulation coating that reduces temperature. Solacoat is the most efficient and most cost effective form of heat insulation commercially available today. It is a waterborne acrylic emulsion based product, which has a special membrane additive which aids in rejecting of the infra red rays from the sun.
Solacoat Heat Reflective Coating was recently awarded a Silver GAIA Big 5 2008 Award for its innovative excellence and its environmentally friendly characteristics besides its superior performance.
Solacoat works by reflecting solar energy from the surface to which it is applied. Long term testing has shown that for a galvanised iron or colourbond steel roof, then application of Solacoat to the exterior surface will reduce the heat load to be removed by the air conditioner, by reducing the surface temperature of the roof as much as 40oC. Power savings for a typical building with a roof area of 10,000 square metres could be expected to be 100,000 Kwh per year or more. This would give a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for this building alone, of about 100 tonnes per annum. Solacoat requires little energy in production and has the economic benefit of a payback period of 4 to 5 years. In addition, it does not required any special technology to apply, and cost and environmental benefits start immediately with minimal ongoing cost and maintenance demands. Should the use of Solacoat be factored into the design of a new building, a further reduction in the payback period could be expected.
The award winning SolaCoat is a specially created waterborne acrylic based emulsion that complies with NATA and APAS standards.  It is non-hazardous and has a unique membrane additive that rejects heat from permeating your residential or commercial buildings, protecting your properties and assets for optimal energy efficiency, cost-saving solutions.  It attributes in building an eco-friendly environment.

Certified by EcoSpecifier International, an internationally recognized certification establishment,  as per the LEED’s rating system, the SolaCoat product line is proven to radiate up to 80% of the infrared (heat) rays back into the environment. It is cost effective in that it requires 50 micron thickness applied to any material, and causes the internal temperature to reduce by up to 15°C. Solacoat diminishes green house gas emissions and inhibits rust, corrosion and thermal expansion, ensuring durability. It provides better energy efficiency and reduces air conditioning costs by up to 50% while being non-toxic and environmentally safe and friendly with a 10 year performance guarantee.
